Octopus ink isn’t just a puff of smoke: sometimes they squirt a dark, blobby decoy octopus! While the fake one distracts the hunter, the octopus sneaks off like a slippery magician.

An octopus doesn’t need crayons to blend in! Even without seeing colours like us, it can copy sand and coral by changing its skin’s bumps, brightness, and patterns, like magic costumes!

An octopus breathes by pulling water into its body bag, where gills grab the oxygen. Then it squirts the used water out through a siphon tube. And it’s got three hearts: two just for the gills and one for the rest of the body!

When octopuses nap, they sometimes flash colours: it’s like their dreams are playing on their skin!

With arms that flow like ribbons in the sea, the octopus dances its own underwater ballet.

When an octopus swims fast, its main heart briefly stops beating, so they prefer to crawl to save energy.

When you’ve got suckers this strong, even shells don’t stand a chance!

The Giant Red Octopus can stretch wider than a car and still squeeze through a hole the size of a lemon!

Octopus handshake incoming! Each of their suckers can taste and feel at the same time, so when one grabs your camera, it’s just checking if it’s yummy or interesting!
